Seeing Stripes...

How to Paint Stripes on a Wall

LOVE THESE COLORS!

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Background paint color
  • 1-inch brush
  • Painting tape
  • Roller
  • Measuring tape
  • Stripe color
  • Pencil
  1. Decide the stripe color and the background color you desire.
  2. Paint the entire wall with the stripe color.
  3. Dry and repeat coats if necessary (let it dry for 3 days).
  4. Tape the first desired stripe on the wall.
  5. Measure between every stripe. This is crucial. If the top of one stripe to the top of the next stripe is 1 foot then the bottoms MUST also be 1 foot.
  6. Use a pencil to mark the tops and bottoms of each new stripe.
  7. Tape all the stripes. Be sure to use a tape that will not remove the paint when you pull it off ( I used green frog tape). To avoid bleed-through, run your fingernail along the edge of the tape. This is especially important on highly textured walls. ( I then painted over the first color paint with the same color that I used above and let it dry for 2 days before applying the gray color stripe, this helped with the bleed through on my textured walls)
  8. Paint the wall with the desired background color.
  9. Dry and repeat coats if necessary.
  10. Pull the tape.
  11. Touch-up the stripes with a 1-inch brush.
Hope this helps and happy painting!!
